5 Herbs You Should Consider Taking If You Have Brain Fog

The reason behind brain fog varies, from viruses (long-COVID sufferers site this as symptom) to diet and lifestyle, to 'baby brain'*.

The brain needs to assimilate nutrients and eliminate waste, as does all our organs. When this process isn't working optimally, then a build of congestion can occur in the cerebral spinal fluid which surrounds your brain and nerve tissue. Blood is essentially filtered on its way into your brain, into the cerebral spinal fluid.

But help is at hand as there are herbs that can be used to help alleviate this frustrating symptom. Some examples are shown here:

1. Gota Kola

Traditionally used to enhance memory and concentration.

2. Wood Betony

Traditional use of this herb is as a nerve tonic, reducing mental tension, improving circulation and concentration

3. Rosemary

Was used as a rejuvenating brain tonic by ancient Egyptians. Rich in antioxidants, it reduces inflammation and stimulates blood flow to the head. It has a circulatory stimulating herbal action.

4. Holy Basil

One of India's most sacred plans, it has an uplifting effect on the mind.

5. Dandelion Root

Although not a brain herb in itself, this bitter tasting herb is traditionally used to support the liver in clearing toxins the blood.

You could try some sprigs of rosemary in hot water as a cup of tea a few times a day and see how you feel after a few days. It won't neccessarily address the underlying cause of your brain fog, but could provide you with symptomatic relief.

If you want to explore the other herbs listed, seek support for the underlying cause of your brain fog, or have a individualised prescription made for your symptoms, then please make an appointment with me and I will support you.
